Three programs run all season. None of them need experience, a license or gear beyond gloves and a trash bag.

Garlic Mustard Games

A county-wide garlic mustard pull competition. Attend a community pull event, hit a trailside pull station or clear your own property. Staff weigh your haul at events; remote pullers weigh their own and send a photo. Winners are ranked on pounds per teammate and crowned at a food truck celebration.

Ambassador program

Become a noxious weed steward.

Become a noxious weed steward. Pull or cut along trails and open space, bag the plants and seedheads, leave the bag by the program sign and log your effort online. The program grew out of the Garlic Mustard Games, where community members pulled thousands of pounds along Summit County trails.

  1. STEP 01

    Pull or cut

    Work along trails and open space. Bag every plant and every seedhead, roots included where you can get them.

  2. STEP 02

    Leave the bag

    Set it next to the program sign, off the trail. Crews collect and dispose of it so seed never goes to the landfill loose.

  3. STEP 03

    Log your effort

    Fill out the short online survey. Every logged pull is an entry in the prize drawing held every two weeks.

  4. STEP 04

    Repeat

    Different weeds peak at different times. Come back through the season and you will find something new each visit.

Hounds Against Houndstongue

Houndstongue burrs leave the canyon in fur and tails. These trailhead pull days pair weed removal with a grooming-and-education stop for dog owners, so the dog that carried the seed in helps take it out.

Help for landowners

Grant funded assistance

Grant funding has supported residential property treatment in past seasons. Assistance is currently limited to properties adjacent to public open space or waterways. Get in touch to hear when a new round opens.
